lyrics

If you agree or not we all got our take on substance
Through everything we do its just a search for endless plunder
Claim to know the way and fight to make it known to others
Ten toes down til we 6 feet under
Stand for death til it hits -
This life is more than kicks
Still we spend it like a joke
Defined by everything we get
Choke out warnings of our conscience
Happiness is what we want
I'm talkin to myself as much as you if this feels harsh but
Hardships hearken character
Just reveals your heart
From the start it was dark and
Not the problem's fault for nonsense
The response is either offense
Or ignoring what is falling
Til it all comes crashin down upon us
And its obvious
I've failed as a son, a friend, a brother, and any other role that I've been under
And when I'm trying harder is the time that I discover
I can never do the good my heart demands from others

Man
I been trying for a minute here
Trying to figure out just what substance is
And if it is
What I find, will it make things clear
Would it either be something that I love or fear
And if I fear, is there love to give
Is there reason to live
When I figure out what substance is
And if there's reason to live
Do I fear its not the substance wished
Could I love in spite of how it appears

They preach education
As if that could make a man raised to get paper changed by regurgitating facts and figures
Its just an educated sinner
No different from the man who robbin folks to fill the fridge week by week for dinner
We see a criminal thats full of malicious intent
He just saw a kid at home who needed food so he could live
The family unit's been destroyed
And men see they can't fix it
So they leave cuz bein used by God requires much dependence
Don't pin this all on them
Cuz fam no one's the victim
Its more than social ills and people poverty stricken
Racism still exists, but all of these are just a symptom
Hearts are callous and there is no approach to government
No man in office for change
No economic sustenance
Nothing will recover the damage done, bank on this
The stocks and money will crash, everything seen we corrupt with fear
Out of ignorance of what we know is real

Man
They been trying for a minute here
Trying to tell these folk just what substance is
If its this,
What they give, is this reason to live
Is this really what we teach our kids
Is this love or fear
That we don't question if this is real
Do we fear that there's nothing better than what appears
Or do we really love this down inside and keep it concealed
Cause of how good doin wrong is makin us feel

Would someone tell me why is sin and hell the last topics of discussion
But these folk are quick to rally like they think know of justice
Half these cats the ones to claim that only God can judge me
Yet they rush to wish His judgment on those that they think unworthy
The situation was tense, profilin was the subject
George shouldn't have followed and Trayvon shouldn't have confronted him
The scuffle aggravated, self-defense or not, was murder
Yet instead of choosin grace, each assumed who was worser
And we still do the same, and if you think you not a Zimmerman
Then you don't get the basic of the grace that God has given
On the view of heaven, man was sure to be destroyed and yet
Not like Lucifer, provision given for redemption
Men livin like they not guilty, thats injustice
Christ took the punishment that each of us deservin
So those folk who vengeful, not just defending truth
Will receive the measure of the vengeance on themselves too

I had to take a minute here
Just to let these folk know what substance is
No greater love than this
One that lays down its life for a friend
But this one was higher than this
Christ, He didn't lay down His life for this friend
Jesus died in my place while I was still in my sin
Amen
No greater love than that one that He gives
The fear is gone
Substance is that He lives in all believing in Him
Raised from death just to show that we'll live
Anyone placing trust in this gift
Overcame, for those forsaking the world
Our inheritance is
Being His, forever to live
Forever we'll live
Forever we'll live
